Loving & Serving

’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your mind.. and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Being a follower of Christ means loving and serving like He did. At Olivet, we are always seeking new ways to live out Jesus' commandment to love God and neighbor. Here are some of our ministries of love and service that keep us near to the heart of Jesus!

Adopt-a-Highway
Olivet has adopted part of 765, from St.Pauls to Sneades. Our next road clean up date is September 26 at 8am. If you would like to attend, you will need to meet at the church before heading out. If you are interested in becoming a part of this, talk with Outreach Chairperson, Sarah Blair.(410) 326-8400.

Ever Wanted to Work on an Overseas Mission Trip?
Every year, thousands of United Methodists travel around the world to work in orphanages, rebuild homes, and meet other Christians from across the globe. These groups are called Volunteers In Mission (or UVIM). This August, Reverend Charles Harrell will lead a VIM team to Russia where we are to provide assistance to a United Methodist Camp and Church. This trip is open to persons from Olivet. Excursions to Moscow for sightseeing will also be included. The church in Russia is growing rapidly and they appreciate the encouragement and helping hands of their brothers and sisters in Christ. See Pastor Faith for details. Interested team members will meet in late February for an overview of the trip. VIM dates are August 2- 16, 2010.

Prison Ministry
Each month, the Word of God and the Love of Christ is taken into our nearby women's prison, through our prison ministry that partners with Point of Change Jail and Street Ministry, Inc . If you are interested in becoming a part of this, talk with Nurture Chairperson, Tiffany Gaines. (410) 326-8400.

Be A Link in the Prayer Chain
Would you would like to be a part of the praying ministry of Olivet? Please contact Pastor Faith, Alma Rita Joy or Marjorie Knoll. We have a prayer group that meets weekly, and also a chain that works via email.

Food Lion & Giant Cards
Did you know that if you buy a $100 Food Lion or Giant Card from Olivet, the church will earn up to $5.00 a card. This is a simple way for you to give to the church, as a part of your regular shopping. To get a card, See Edie Reed, 410-394-1571.

S.M.I.L.E. - an ecumenical ministry that operates a thrift store and food pantry. Persons can connect with emergency and on-going assistance through SMILE. Members of Olivet have supported this ministry from it's inception and continue to volunteer and offer regular financial support. Visit their website at http://www.smileinc.org/

Project Echo - we support this nonprofit agency that provides emergency assistance to homeless people in our community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each month, we provide a meal to the residents. You can learn more about this ministry to residents of Calvert County at their website www.projectecho.net
